QUEER THE NORTH
project website coming soon....

Queer heritage requires the recording of our lived experiences but there's limited funding or legacy from some previous projects so an absense or gap within the archive remains. Therefore there needs to be radical intervension with established archives and experimental approaches to gather stories to ensure queer representation within our shared cultural memory.

I intent to analyse queer oral history and film and video collections across the North West region and encourage more collections to be formally donated to these archives.

As a professional archivist and filmmaker I will also base new interviews and creative collaborations upon the spotlight that investigating these gaps in the archive shows. I will be creating a feature documentary film to address this and focus on exploring both trans and rural experience in Northern UK.

This is a three year doctoral project based at SODA (School of Digital Arts) at Manchester Metropolitan University. It is in collaboration with North West Film Archive and Archives+ and funded by the North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership (NWCDTP).
